Your dog lives and learns with our team, receiving consistent guidance, hands-on coaching, and daily skill development throughout their stay.

What Happens During Board and Train

Using proven, reward-based training methods, we build a fully customized training plan around your dog’s unique personality, temperament, and goals. Each day includes individualized one-on-one training sessions, enrichment activities, supervised exercise, and real-world practice around distractions. We don’t just teach commands — we teach your dog to reliably perform them when it matters.

Unlike traditional boarding facilities in Los Angeles, every aspect of our Board & Train program is centered on education and behavior development. Your dog participates in controlled social exposure and confidence-building exercises designed to promote calm, reliable behavior both at home and in public. Every dog has their own comfortable private space to relax between sessions, preventing overstimulation while supporting effective learning.

Why Owner Education Makes or Breaks Board and Train

The reason some board and train programs don’t deliver lasting results isn’t the dog — it’s that the owner never learns the program. That’s why every Board & Train at I Said Sit! includes private lessons with your trainer and required hands-on transfer sessions before and on pickup day. You leave knowing exactly how to maintain everything your dog has built. The full detail on how this works is in our FAQ below.

Clients are also welcome to request our add-on Pupdates throughout their dog’s stay — photos and progress updates so you always know how things are going.

Is Board and Train Right for Your Dog?

Board & Train is our most intensive option. If you want daily professional training with the flexibility to bring your dog home each night, our Educational Daycare may be the better fit. Weekly private lessons are available for hands-on owners who want to do the training themselves. We’ll help you decide during your consultation.

How to Get Started

All new Board & Train students begin with a one-hour consultation ($200). This includes a facility tour, a meeting with your trainer, a review of your dog’s history and goals, and a personalized training plan. It ensures Board & Train is the right fit before you commit.

Call us at (310) 558-9037 or reach out online to schedule your consultation and discover how our Board & Train program can create lasting, meaningful change for you and your dog.

Board & Train — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our intensive live-in training program.

Board and train is our most intensive training program. Your dog lives with us full-time during the program (14, 21, or 28 days, depending on the age and package) and receives individual training sessions every day with a trainer. They’re immersed in a structured, reward-based learning environment around the clock, which creates faster and deeper results than weekly lessons alone. Before your dog comes home, you complete private lessons with your trainer so you know exactly how to maintain everything they’ve learned.

This is the most important question to ask, and the honest answer is: it depends entirely on whether the owner learns the program too. A dog can be perfectly trained at a facility and unlearn everything in two weeks if they go home to a household that doesn’t know the cues, the timing, or the expectations the dog has built. This is why so many board and train programs fail to deliver lasting results. At I Said Sit!, we take owner education as seriously as dog training. Every program includes private lessons for your family before your dog comes home, and we require two hands-on transfer sessions where we walk you through every command, every habit, and every situation your dog has been practicing. You leave confident and prepared, not guessing. We’ve been voted Best Boarding School in Los Angeles every year since 2009. Our process works because we train both ends of the leash.

Board and Train is ideal for people who travel frequently and need training to happen while they’re away, households where busy schedules or young kids make daily training nearly impossible, anyone who just got a new dog or puppy and wants to start with a serious foundation, people who are overwhelmed with a dog’s behavior and need intensive daily intervention, and dogs with serious behavioral issues — reactivity, aggression, fear, separation anxiety — that need behavior modification in a controlled environment. If your life doesn’t allow you to be the primary trainer right now, Boarding School was built for you.

The GED program ($4,500–$5,580) is for dogs over 20 weeks and covers core obedience: sit, down, come, place, loose leash walking, and household manners, with 30 minutes of individual training daily. The Puppy program ($3,250–$7,850) is for puppies under 20 weeks and focuses on socialization, housebreaking, mouthing and biting, basic commands, and building a confident foundation for life. You can select GED or Honors. The Honors program ($6,350–$7,850) is for dogs needing customized training or behavior modification — reactivity, aggression, fear, separation anxiety, and more — with 60 minutes of individual training daily and a fully tailored behavior plan.

Your dog’s well-being is our first priority. Every dog gets their own private space with comfortable bedding, toys, and fresh water. We balance training and enrichment with adequate rest and play — we don’t over-schedule or exhaust them. Our staff-to-dog ratio is intentionally high so every dog gets individual attention and we can monitor health, behavior, and mood closely. Clients can request our popular add-on Pupdates, which are photos and short updates during their dog’s stay. We’ve been caring for dogs in Los Angeles for over 35 years, and families trust us to treat their dogs like our own.

Yes, but visits are your built-in private training sessions. Dogs settle into the training routine and environment at their own pace, and visits can disrupt that process and slow progress. We want the lessons with you to be a chance to start working on that good behavior with you right away. The focus during the stay is maximizing your dog’s learning, and that’s easier when they’re fully settled into their new temporary routine.

Graduation is the beginning, not the end. Before your dog comes home, you’ll complete private sessions with their trainer covering the full training program. After that, many clients transition their dog into our Educational Daycare for ongoing training and socialization, or continue with follow-up private lessons to refine skills and tackle new challenges. Our goal is a dog and owner team that keeps succeeding long after the program ends.

Start by booking a complimentary free 15-minute phone call. In this Discovery Session, you will speak with a trainer, and they will learn about your goals and review the training options we have that will best help you meet your training goals. This call is followed up with an informational email reviewing packages, prices, and health records. The next step will be for you to be sure you have all the necessary health documentation before letting us know you are ready to start your dog training journey. Given seasonal demand, especially for 21 and 28-day programs, we recommend booking several weeks in advance. Contact us at (310) 558-9037 or reach out online to schedule.

Our Happy Customers

I highly recommend your organization for behavior training, boarding, and all the other services that you offer. I am a dog and cat lover and can guarantee you that the first stop I make when I get another dog will be “I Said Sit!”. I will not bring another dog to my home until you have spent 30 days with the animal working your magic. Thank you for saving my dog and my sanity.
